Finding good reds for the Corsica tasting - It‘s a walk in the park. This summer, I went after good wines by visiting numerous producers on the island. The reds were good structured but still, ready-to-drink wines. The spicy character of the wines had nothing to with any kind of oak-influence. AOP-Reds are held in stainless steel. The producers do believe honest wines are expressing the grape in its purest form in this way. Some of them do hit with temping joi de vivre, without AOP-labels, too. Like, @closculombu ‘s I Sgio, 2020, which is a cépage from seven different grape varieties, including forgotten Corsican grapes. This wine doesn’t need a story-telling. It looks like they’ve found the right sites, right density, right wine-making technics, right everything… I Sglio is stunning. Arena’s Morta Maio (2013), an exceptional example of winemaking. It’s a complete wine, 100%Niellucciu (Sangiovese) from Patrimonio. This one shows us how a Sangiovese, without any oak influence, can be spicy, lively and long lasting. Another wine from Arena, San Giovanni 100% Carcaghjolu Neru) smells like a fine Fleurie. The grape is rarely cultivated as monocépage. Crushed cheeries, myrthe, herbs on the nose. Elegant. High acidity, soft tannens. 12,7% alcohol. A wine that contains both sunshine and irresistible freshness. There are many of bottles to talk about. And yet, the red wines from Corsica are markedly underrepresented in Germany. People! We need to talk about these wines! #corsicanwine #winediary #winesofcorsica #vindecorse #rarewine #winesofinstagram
