Another underrated vintage from Tuscany, 2018, masterfully crafted by Colleoni. I like „the poorly rated vintages“ like 2014 and 2018 from Tuscany. They‘re lighter, yet still youthful without any tertiary aromas. I really love this grape, though my relationship with Brunello is oscillating. There are so many mediocre bottles. They can be over the top, and sometimes confusing. What does it want to be? A better Rosso, or a Rosso overwhelmed by winemaking? This is one of the well-structured Brunellos: packed with garden herbs and ethereal notes, with confident tannins. It’s a feast wrapped in velvet and has the unmistakable identity of Sangiovese. And it stands out with acidity, the essence of Sangiovese, which is present in great Brunello as well. That lively, energetic core! And exemplary use of oak.
