Les Combes 2022 feels like biting into a basket of juicy apples. It’s not the polished, high-end Chardonnay nose, but rather pure, layered fruit with generous salty citrus. The wine unfolds slowly, it’s still very young. Fruity. Very. And reductive. At first, it might seem unspectacular, to be honest I thought so too. I put it back in the fridge, thinking maybe it wasn’t the best recommendation (@wein.flaneur). On the second day, its cool, understated elegance reminds you why Jura Chardonnays can be so irresistible: raw fruit energy and deep vibrancy. Purity. The wine never falters, it holds a cold core that keeps everything alive. Still, Les Combes carries remarkable extraction, ripeness, and warmth too. Yet all the ripe fruit with earthy, nutty core, and touch of spiciness, ginger and clove, all come with an easygoing vibe.
