No funky labels, no endless-barnyard-noses, but still minimal intervention in the cellar. Nothing about this wine is showy, it speaks quietly. Quiet and still, hard to resist. Thank God they give the wines time in the cellar, because allowing them enough bottle age at home is tough. The result is pristine, finely crafted Sangiovese from Radda. Il Guercino 2021 is so fine and elegant in its expression. It doesn’t try to be bigger, louder, or fancier than it is. That’s to me Uno. Bigger and louder, and yea with another level of using oak - may be fancier. Not that, I don’t like it, but Il Guercino is my kind of wine. The juicy core of Sangiovese shines through in Il Guercino, wrapped in dried flowers. Juicy red fruits, and a touch of dark-greenish aromas, refreshing clove and smoky finish: each element perfectly balanced. The wine impresses with its precision and extreme clarity.
