Now, arrived. Barbaresco Riserva 2016, Baricchi Excellent condition. Very elegant and focused, with silky tannins. It is still evolving but definitely not too young to drink. All the classic Nebbiolo jazz, all the characteristics are present: asphalt, graphite minerality, and leather in the background, but without being loud and weighty. Barbaresco in a very particular style. Marsala Riserva 1987, Bartoli 20 years or so in barrels. Calm. Complex. Extremely layered. Flavors range from fruit biscuits to ashy carob, with ripe walnuts and almonds… a little bit of licorice and cinnamon, and hints of coffee. If you enjoy fortified wines, this wine is a treat. I almost never say no to a dessert wine and opening one alone is a seductive act. Marsalas are intense sometimes way too intense may be.
