Pyritis (2022), @artemis_karamolegos_winery , Santorini. To be honest, I haven’t really paid much attention to this Assyrtiko until now. Even though I’ve been trying Papas for a few years and have seen how it transforms beautifully with age. But this year, Pyritis, whatever happened this year?, ended up being one of my favorite Karamelogos wines in its current form. It’s probably not because of any major seasonal changes. Santorini producers usually find questions like “Was it a hot vintage?” kind of boring, because there’s not much to talk about; vintages around here tend to be pretty similar anyway. I don’t know what it is, but even at this young stage, beyond the usual citrus notes, you’re already getting tarragon, rosemary… it’s already showing some pretty complex aromas. Definitely a wine to keep an eye on as it evolves. The grapes come from three different plots. What a great expression of saline and sharp Santorini Assyrtiko! #santoriniwine #assyrtiko #greekwines #winediary
