This Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru (deg. 2000) comes from Ambonnay’s Les Crayères, a top chalky Pinot Noir site and Bouzy, another historically important Pinot place in the region. It spent 36 months on the lees, made from old vines. (Egly-Ouriet now produces this bottle as a single-vineyard Grand Cru from that parcel alone, no more Bouzy.) What sets it apart from most champagnes of that era is its energy and structure, the way it still “moves the rock” after all these years. It opens with tension, then unfolds into depth and densely layered flavor. It’s amazing how robust Egly’s Champagnes remain and how they never go démodé. #eglyouriet #agedchampagne #rarebottles #champagnestudy #instachampagne
